The afthermath of VDM

Written by Jack. Posted at 12:39 pm on September 18th, 2009

The company formerly known as Van der Moolen is history. That’s a pity for a lot of stakeholders, although some managers appear to be reaping the fruit of the outstanding derivative positions.

Couldn’t believe the rumours were true, management actually buying their own positions against a discount of reportedly 3.5 million. Under the flag of their new firm called Pirate Bay Alphabay Capital. They apparently felt a little embarrassed. Doesn’t exactly look good.

It seems more pieces of the firm are continuing on a stand alone basis. Aespen stays a broker, and more groups of traders join together.

The poor girl on the picture is the photographer’s darling. She worked for Van der Moolen USA (see last post), and after the sale of the unit to Lehman Brothers she clearly continued her career over there.

(Tip of the hat to a certain Quote editor for the picture. Don’t forget to check out his report on this girl called Elizabeth Rose)

  1. And Frank Vogel? Is he gevlogen?

  2. Vogel can't get permission by the AFM to participate. Anyway, more interested in Elizabeth Rose.

  3. It looks like all they all think it wasn't their fault. Stock traders, option traders everybody is clustering together and start for themselves. I am curious what are they going to do better this time? Unless they can create an edge I think most of these initiatives are doomed, although Egbert and Onno have an advantage of about 2.5 million :-0

  4. RDD isnt gonna be involved so that gives them a much better chance :)

  5. Don't forget Hans Kroon and sons LOL

  6. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/17/fashion/weddings/17ROSE.html

Elizabeth Rose married is 28 years old an has just married an 41 year old fart.

    What a waste of beauty.

  7. Sorry, I was to shocked to write a straight sentence.

  8. I stop posting here. Though even more than nine out of ten postings are correct, the corruption worsenes. We have to face it: Holland has become an Olive nation of the worst kind. The next prime minister may be even a follower of Goebels. Sleep well.

  9. 4:48, you're a sick bastard

  10. Yes, 4:48, you also ruined my day with this news. Dreams falling into pieces!

  11. A prophetic e-mail we received in July 2007, in the writing style of RDD and the linked picture attached;

    Date: Sat, 28 July 2007 10:12
    Subject: Driver of the plane

Yes, I am a kwalivied pilod. I know how to drife a plane.

  12. RDD Family Foundation is in Liechtenstein, and is represented by Cees Jan Quirijns.
RDD Family Foundation holds 100% of Beau Cedre Limited in Malta, and is represented by Joanna Agius.

Joanna Agius works for International Beneficiary Services Limited, Malta (they have a website).

Cees Jan Quirijns is based in Zug, and holds also power of attorney over Curvalue AG, together with Eugene ten Brink. I heard rumors about suspicious transactions going via Zug, and that Ten Brink was getting nervous.

I also heard rumors that Ten Brink was involved in a tax fraud before two or three years back.

  13. Eugene ten Brink is a friend of Richard Den Drijver

  14. Developing software in Switzerland, in a company where the director of the RDD Family foundation also has power of attorney?

    http://www.moneyhouse.ch/u/pub/sa/curvalue_ag_CH-170.3.020.987-8.htm

  15. I knew he was old, but…

  16. Eugene was the buttlicker of RDD. He got a tax bill a few years ago in Switzerland about a 600k. That wise guy, as most of RDDs people thought he never has to pay tax.
Well their mentor thought he is clever and can be a CEO of a big listed company. Just a bunch of suckers, which includes Egbert and Onno.
A big Halleluja for the AFM, for being too stupid to see it coming, what everyone in the business was aware of!!!!!!!

  17. EG-BERT KAMPIOEN !!!! EGBERT KAMPIOEN !!!!

  18. the whole curvalue, vdm buyout was strange in the first place. everyone knew that curvalue were rubbish. they hadnt made real profits for years, and yet vdm bought them for an inflated price. apparently there were lots of back handers taking place….. why doesnt the AFM look into all the brown envelopes going between the two groups with this buy out…..

  19. Strange but common. RDD and his sidekicks acted like every other "private equity" or "buy out" crook in the free western hemisphere: Take control, loot the cash and run away.

  20. Egbert Kampioen??? Please explain, did I miss something?!

  21. this is onno – yes you did idiot

  22. @12:58 – taking control and liquidating or selling in parts is legal. Al shareholders would benefit (though not all stakeholders, such as employees).

Taking control and embezzle money is a crime, even in Holland.

  23. VDM units bankrupt;

    http://www.fd.nl/artikel/13219420/moolen-onderdelen-rechter-failliet-verklaard

VDM Effecten Specialist includes the desks in Amsterdam, Cologne and Zug. The Cologne/Zug unit will (I guess) continue, but of course not with the graveyard full of skeleton's left behind by RDD.

Cur II/Cur III were the CMM/PMM activities of Egbert. This unit will continue as "First Euro", but this unit takes some history on board…

    To be continued

  24. The most interesting bankruptcy ever; the holding and its units going bankrupt, and the units continuing without the holding.

  25. the afm dont care

  26. http://www.fd.nl/artikel/13090376/vdm-verkoopt-posities

    As a token of appreciation to the shareholders of VDM for funding the Alphabay office, infrastructure, computers, equipmentroom, trading software and start positions, here some pictures;

    http://www.mypicx.com/09232009/Alphabay_office/
Evert van de Beekstraat 386, Schiphol

    Egbert P; Single owner of Alphabay since Sept 10 2009; temporary co-director Alphabay Sept 7/10, 2009;

Richard S; director Alphabay since Sept 7, 2009.

  27. Nice work!

  28. Onno is the coo

  29. conno

  30. Who is Richard S.??

  31. Alphabay Capital directors;
    Richard C.M. Smit (43)
    Jacob Harteveld (40)

  32. Egbert was only director for 3 days? Perhaps the AFM gave no approval. Egbert was the middle man in the forbidden dividend games.

  33. why isnt it possible anymore to do copy>paste?!

  34. Thats because you're using a VDM computer.

  35. AlphaBay computer you mean?! ;-)
it's ours, it's ours! nothing for the VDM-shareholder(SNS) anymore!

  36. So, Egbert Rick and Jaap are the directors and owner? It seems they are doomed already then! Egbert failed so badly at VDM and made no money. Rick was Risk Manager at VDM and failed to notice the company going bankrupt? Jaap was Mid office and failed to see what was going on too. I doubt they will be around long, and no traders will want to work for them.

  37. wrong

some ex vdm will trade for them, as no company will take them

  38. maybe they should merge with all options…
    one big shit show

  39. drinks, drinks, drinks, kbc-drinks, drinks, drinks!

  40. Egbert resuscitates, he is like Jesus

  41. AMEN

  42. sunk again by bonus hungry traders and bad managers. the model is dead.

  43. Not bad managers but bad busness model – nouveaux VDM business line

    http://www.viedemerde.fr/tshirts

perfect for the new post VDM life

  44. How can you start a company with only managers who cannot make money at all ?? this are old and tired guys who are trying to earn the discount on the option position.

  45. all gone quiet , anybody got any new updates on the VDM situation???

  46. Anonymous

How? All employees have been fired. Trying to get words out of the mouth of a dead body is difficûlt ;) .
And those, who are still downwinding and liquidating the ashes of scorched VDM were most likely the crooks or knew about it and keep their mouths shut so as to not incriminate themselves.

All is said. It is now up to the shareholders to fire up investigations. It was their money after all.

friday special shareholders meeting, guess some juicy details will be told what happened in the last couple of years.

komen Den Drijver en Kroon ook ?

  49. Anonymous

Here an old recording of Den Drijver explaining the huge amount of money that was unlocked by giving up (giving away to Lehman) the specialist role, and has mysteriously disappeared since while its European entities were profit making.

Richard is still listed as a governor at Aiglon, a prestigious Swiss school. Perhaps he can teach the pupils how to embezzle money and to ruin a firm.

Euh, what is the news? Based on the 2008 tax declaration of VDM, VDM should be entitled to a refund of €32m, and the tax authority first wants to audit that declaration?

  53. Anonymous

"That the qualities of humility and selflessness must characterise leadership at all levels in the (Aiglon) College."

I advise Den Driver to enroll at Aiglon himself. Then he can also improve his grammar beyond that of a five-year old. BUD he is probably too afraid that the children will bully his sorry ass.

  54. Anonymous

  55. Anonymous

At an extraordinary meeting with the supervisory board, Dolf van den Brink said to Den Drijver "you are a too little boy with too big toys".

Den Drijver probably responded; bud I have actually the monie, and you are actually an ashool

I smell a rat here. How can a company go bust and then receive 32 mill in the next weeks. Is this a setup to rob the holders of ordinary shares in favor of pref holders. Who is this Zwart guy anyway and how is he related to the pref holders?

  57. Anonymous

    hee october 8 @ 8.56pm
…where were you in school when they were teaching accounting? Cashflow management and liquidity crissis is what brought down VDM along with EGO´s, bad judgement, bad advise and extraordinary expenses. Because in the real world it is: if you can`t show me the money you (or find someone who will finace you) play time is over and it´s lights OUT!!
Nothing to do with Zwart and certainly not the Pref holders, as they are loosing 32,7 mln.
