Euronext & Eurex trading holidays 2011
The year of 2010 is basically over, everyone expects trading to be rather thin the last two weeks and shift their attention to Christmas presents and having drinks with brokers and clearing banks. This has been a difficult year for most of us, with a lack of trading hurting profits of several firms.
There have been exactly three trading holidays by Euronext, and that’s exactly the same number as in the coming year. Or to be specific, next year will be worse in terms of trading holidays as there won’t be two short trading days.
The next two fridays (december 24 and 31) will be short. Trading in options will be halted at 12:55 13:55 (CET) and futures will trade until 13:00 14:00.
For the next year, there won’t be trading on :
- Friday 22 April 2011 (Good Friday)
- Monday 25 April 2011 (Easter Monday)
- Monday 26 December 2011(Christmas)
Of course, certain Eurex markets will close during national holidays of some countries. Scandinavia isn’t very alive during Midsommar, so the options won’t trade neither on June 24th. Details here. The French market seems to close early twice in December 2011, in contrast to the rest of Euronext (English and French).
Oh well, at least people will have to work a full year before earning 50M in bonusses…

no they are getting rid of more people at optiver as its another year of not making money and big overheads. The fine from the US is just round the corner as well.

@12:13 Could you please explain why it is rotten? If it is just because people won’t receive a bonus than it just a rotten traders mentality if it is the management or direction the company is going to than i would love to hear why?

They must have their heads up their asses if they think the fine will be that small.

I would be 15m bid for lawyer fees itself.
The last action in the case was on the 26th October when both parties agreed to stay the proceedings, I think for the fourth time.
Next hearing is supposedly January 19th, defendants must enter a plea by February 18th. Assuming of course that they don’t come out with a settlement.
My guess is that legal fees would be about 5m EUR at this point, there has been very little time spent in court so far.
5m EUR is lot closer to legal costs than 15m EUR .. jesus this is not goldman sachs sec case or anything .. dowson just whacked a bit of oil .. no big deal ..

He may have just “whacked a bit of oil” but they also lied fairly blatantly to the authorities, and that is why the CFTC are looking to make an example out of them.
The fine will be around 30m-50m USD. The Goldman’s fine was exceptionally large because of the profit they made from the activity.

Where is this 5 mil+ income tax expense coming from ??
is this tax expense because of group structure ? the teak biz has tax liability whereas the separate trading biz can claim tax rebates on 2009 losses ?
Latest news in Optiver vs Tibra is that there was a hearing on the 17th December and Tibra has now been granted access to Optiver’s confidential evidence (subject to a whole bunch of confidentiality undertakings).
Directions hearing set down for 4th February 2011.
optiver should focus on the 70 m they will be paying in Q1 2011 to the cftc. thats gonna hurt
Certainly going to hurt if they made as little money as they did last year. I dont think they will get much out of Tibra, if they get anything at all.
even if optiver dont get anything upfront, just getting tibra hurt badly would be good in terms of lesser competition for making markets .. la lehman closing shop being good for surviving banks ..
optiver has no case against tibra…its been more than 3 years and they have nothing according to their own legal team (they are just milking the fees)
optiver claiming tibra must have used their software doesnt make it true
optiver are a powerhouse firm still, but their management speak lots of crap to the staff, what is amazing is that their smart staff keep believing them

it takes a lot of effort to have management grounded .. optiver has the ratings system where u get rated 1-5, dunno when they paid stoopid mercer consulting to teach them this management school theory .. so everyone tries to kiss the ass above so as to not get worse rating or worse be fired .. while this performance system is transparent/fair, its got obvious negative fallout in terms of sycophancy from the staff and decisions that are out of depth from reality by meglomaniac mgmt, den drijver/egbert/allard style ..

I’ve been told something pretty similar – we probably know the same people at MSJ 🙂
They’ve spent something like 7m AUD so far on the case, and will probably have to foot Tibra’s bill as well. Traders can’t be too happy about it.

did it come back in line later ? i still dont see whats the problem with 150 point downtick in 2 seconds .. the guy made a mistake, he lost money in it probably, you are a professional market participant, u shud have been on the other side of losses, some free juicy profit in 2 seconds .. this happens all the time ..

Indeed i was making money. Even a monkey could do that if he is fast enough. I was hitting a reasonable number of OESX and ODAX.

I didn’t know what MSJ was, so I typed in “MSJ” in google. When the answers turned out too random, I typed “MSJ law” as I figured it was probably a law firm considering the context it was mentioned in. And what do you get as hit number one:
