For sale : cheap car, hardly used, good condition

26 Nov 2009
The title says it all. Somebody definitely needs to get rid of his brand new Renault Scenic with license plate 16-JNZ-5. Hardly ever used and in perfect condition. As good as new.

The car is part of the remaining assets of Van der Moolen, to be auctioned somewhere in January 2010. Together with the other rather unimpressive VDM cars (the Lexus is a nice exception).

The curious fact is the car had been bought by the firm on August 5th, just five days before seeking creditor protection. Five days including a weekend. Who has been driving these cars? Can’t imagine traders to be driving this kind of vehicles..

The Lexus was driven by Linda Moos. The wannabe CFO and registered public accountant. She and the wicked witch Lenny van der Ham are as quilty as Richard Den Drijver.

RDD's very very expensive car is payed for by VDM, en is located in Switzerland. Seems they haven't recovered the car for auction in NL yet.

The traders didn't get any car. But they paid for it with higher deskfee's.

By the way, I see 10 dutch cars, and VDM had around 50 traders located in the Netherlands.

Thats E 666 deskfee per trader a month.

Those 10 car drives lets say on average E15000 a month salary.

Thats E 3000 deskfee per trader a month.

etc….

What did VDM guys need cars for? Their taxi bill was supposedly 250k € in 2008, just going from Keizersgracht to Schiphol. Much nicer,if you get a blow job on the way to the airport!

I mean did you traders see this coming ?

@4.49:

VDM paid out 32 million euros in bonuses in 2008 (on a staff of about 150, which includes many who are not traders). The majority of the TRADER bonuses were paid in England and Germany/Switzerland. Curvalue doesn't really figure into this equation because they have NEVER made any serious money. Not before VDM took over Curvalue and most definitely not afterwards. If I remember correctly Curvalue made about 4 million last year with 25 traders (after overhead but before bonuses). After bonuses were paid out to traders and management, that leaves about 2 million for its shareholders in an EXTREMELY good year for trading. Pathetic. The biggest UNDESERVED bonuses were paid out in Amsterdam, of course, to management idiots like Egbert, Linda and myself. Whoever said that crime doesn't pay was a liar!

To answer your question, judging by the bonuses alone, one wouldn't think this company was sinking so swiftly.

@ December 3, 2009 10:26 PM :

The taxi bill was for Richard and Hans alone! I really hate them for ruining the company and screwing me out of a nice "ontslagvergoeding" (golden handshake). I deserved one more than Marco.

I will set up a 3 timezones global interconected hot air investmentbank hedge fund exchange and will sell it for 100 bilion. You have to tell me quikly if you wand to join as the number of interested hi-caliba cantidates far outnumbers the vacancys. I build a strong reputation in my carer. Everyon wonts to work for me.

the vdm administrator will get the bonuses back from senior mgt, dont worry about that. especially when they can see that the company had problems at the time when the bonuses were paid. people like egbert will have to pay it all back

Renault was company car for staff person, Trader including Egbert and Onno did not have a company car. The last IT manager (still with the company on banlrupcy) was driving the Volvo and as it looks he could not even keep that one without a lot of damage.

More interesting is the MISSING painting from the VDM building; the huge one with the ships in a storm. I believe it was bought at Christies some time ago. Maybe an angry employee took it home secretly. …or was it the management… The painting is NOT on the auctionsite; who the hell took it?

Does anyone have an idea of how much the CFTC fine is going to be for Optivar?

Will they get one and if yes how much? (and when)

Avatar

Anonymous

February 25th, 2010 at 2:22 am

At a rough guess, I think the fine will be around $50m USD. The CFTC fined Enron about $35m USD, and that was before the GFC, so they'll be wanting to make an example of them.

"Will they get one?" – If they are found guilty, then yes; if not, then no :P

I personally think the evidence is pretty strong against Optiver – you can listen to the audio on the CFTC website.

The next hearing is in te middle of May. I would expect the case to be resolved either way by the end of the year.
